Plumber in North Little Rock, AR

Across the river from our West Little Rock shop, North Little Rock keeps us busy with the kind of plumbing you don't see in the suburbs. Century-old houses in Argenta, 1920s bungalows in Park Hill, mid-century ranches in Lakewood. Cogan Plumbing is a family-owned shop run by Arkansas Master Plumber Josh Roberts (License MP6055), licensed and insured, and we cross the river to NLR every day. Same-day appointments, flat-rate pricing with no overtime charges, and a 24/7 emergency line that actually gets answered.

Plumbing in North Little Rock: what locals actually deal with

North Little Rock's plumbing is a history lesson. Argenta's houses go back to the early 1900s and before. Original cast iron drains, galvanized supply lines, and plumbing that was added to houses never designed for indoor bathrooms. When an Argenta homeowner calls about a drain that backs up every few months, it's almost never the fixture; it's a hundred-year-old cast iron main that's scaled down to half its diameter inside, or clay tile sewer at the curb with roots in every joint. We camera those lines and show you the video, then talk about whether a sectional repair buys enough time or whether it's a repipe year.

Park Hill is the 1920s-through-1950s band, and the signature problem there is mixed-era pipe. Original galvanized supplies are usually past done. If your pressure drops when someone flushes, that's corroded galvanized choking the flow. The cast iron drains from the 40s and 50s are hitting end of life too, cracking at the hubs. We do a lot of full repipes in Park Hill, PEX or copper, and homeowners are usually shocked at how much pressure they were missing.

Lakewood and the neighborhoods around it skew 1960s and 70s, which brings in the copper era (supplies that are generally fine) but also the first generation of slab construction in the area and cast iron that was laid in trenches that have had sixty years to settle. Bellied sewer lines and offset joints are the repeat complaint. Trenchless pipe bursting handles most of these without tearing up a Lakewood lawn, and spot repairs fix the joints that have shifted.

Levy and the older commercial corridors along Pike and Camp Robinson have their own flavor: small businesses, older rentals, and mixed-use buildings where the plumbing got modified by every tenant since 1975. We do commercial work (grease lines, restrooms, backflow assemblies) and we untangle the kind of pipe routing that makes no sense until you open the wall and see three generations of additions.

Freeze risk runs higher on the older stock. Pier-and-beam houses in Argenta and Park Hill have exposed supply lines under the floor, and every January we get the calls when a hard freeze finds the one uninsulated elbow. Frost-free hose bibs, proper crawlspace insulation, and shutting off exterior lines before the first freeze are the boring fixes that prevent the exciting 2 a.m. calls.

Water hardness in NLR is comparable to the rest of the metro: enough to scale water heaters and fixture cartridges. Tank heaters here last about as long as anywhere else in Central Arkansas, which is to say less than the sticker promises. Anode checks and periodic flushing add years; we do both.

Why North Little Rock homeowners call Cogan Plumbing

Old houses punish guesswork, and that's the core of it: you want a plumber who's opened up enough 1920s walls to know what's behind yours before the drywall comes off. Josh Roberts is an Arkansas Master Plumber (License MP6055) running a licensed-and-insured family shop. In 2026, the Arkansas Times voted us Best Plumber in their Best of Arkansas, and AY Magazine named us a Best of 2026 honoree. Our Google rating is 5.0 stars, earned job by job.

The money part is straightforward: most residential repairs run $150–$500, quoted flat-rate before work starts, with no overtime charges tacked on for nights and weekends. Same-day appointments are the default, and the emergency line never goes to voicemail purgatory.

North Little Rock plumbing FAQs

My Argenta house is from 1910. Is it even worth repiping, or should I patch?

Patching a century-old system is renting time. Galvanized and cast iron at that age fail in sequence: fix one section and the next weakest one goes. A repipe is the honest answer for houses this old, and we do them with minimal disruption to plaster and trim.

Can you fix my sewer line without digging up my yard?

In most cases, yes. We camera the line first, then use trenchless pipe bursting (pulling a new pipe through the old one) for the long runs. Only collapsed sections or bad bellies need a spot excavation.

Why does my Park Hill home lose pressure when two fixtures run?

Corroded galvanized supply lines. The inside of the pipe rusts down until a half-inch line flows like a quarter-inch one. A repipe to PEX or copper restores full pressure: it's the single most noticeable upgrade in these houses.

Do you work on commercial buildings in NLR?

Yes. Restaurants along the riverfront, small offices in Levy, retail on the commercial corridors. Grease lines, restrooms, backflow testing, and the kind of tenant-modified pipe routing older NLR buildings are famous for.

How do I keep my pipes from freezing in a pier-and-beam house?

Insulate the crawlspace lines, install frost-free hose bibs, and let faucets drip on the coldest nights. If it's frozen before, the same spot will freeze again: we winterize those vulnerable runs so you stop gambling every January.

Are there septic systems in North Little Rock?

Inside the city core it's nearly all city sewer, but the outer edges (toward Gravel Ridge and the rural fringe) have septic pockets. We service and repair those systems too.
