Plumber in Little Rock AR
When a pipe bursts at 2 a.m. in Hillcrest or a water heater gives out on a Saturday in Otter Creek, you need a plumber who's actually in Little Rock: not a dispatcher three counties away. Cogan Plumbing is family-owned, run by Arkansas Master Plumber Josh Roberts (License MP6055), and our trucks roll out of West Little Rock every morning into every corner of this city. Same-day appointments, upfront flat-rate pricing with no overtime charges, and a phone answered around the clock for emergencies.
Plumbing in Little Rock: what locals actually deal with
Little Rock isn't one kind of town, and it isn't one kind of plumbing. The houses near the Capitol and in Quapaw Quarter go back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Pier-and-beam foundations, original cast iron drains, galvanized supply lines that are decades past their useful life. If you've got low pressure in the upstairs bath of a Heights home, it's almost always corroded galvanized pipe choking down to the diameter of a pencil. That's a repipe conversation, and it's better to have it on your schedule than at 11 p.m. when one finally splits.
Move a mile west and the story changes. Hillcrest and the Heights have that mid-century mix. Copper supplies from the 50s and 60s holding up okay, but the cast iron under the slab starting to belly and crack. Parkview, Forest Heights, the neighborhoods off University. 1970s and 80s builds where the polybutylene era snuck in, and those gray pipes are the ones insurance companies write letters about. We replace them with PEX or copper before they fail, not after.
Then there's the west side past the river bends (Chenal Valley, Pleasant Valley, The Ranch) where the soil has actual rock in it and the builders of the last 25 years poured slab-on-grade everything. Slab foundations mean your water lines run under concrete, so a pinhole leak in copper shows up as a warm spot on the tile floor or a water bill that doubled overnight. We find slab leaks with acoustic and thermal detection and repair them without tearing your house apart. Usually through the slab at a single point, or by rerouting the line overhead.
Water quality shapes a lot of our calls too. Little Rock water is moderately hard, and the parts of town on well water or near the city edge run harder still. Scale eats water heaters from the inside (that's why a 10-year tank gives up at year eight here) and it gums up fixtures, showerheads, and dishwasher valves.
Freezes are the other predictable disaster. We get two or three hard freezes a year where it stays under 20 for 48 hours, and every year somebody's exterior hose bib or an uninsulated line in a crawlspace bursts. Pier-and-beam houses in the older core are the most exposed. If your pipes froze before, they'll freeze again, we winterize with proper insulation and frost-free bibs so you stop rolling the dice.
Sewer is mostly city sewer inside Little Rock proper, which is good news and bad news. The lines from house to main are the homeowner's responsibility, and in the older neighborhoods those lines are clay tile or cast iron with roots growing into every joint. A camera inspection takes the guesswork out. We put eyes on it, show you the video, and quote trenchless repair against what you actually have.

Little Rock plumbing FAQs
How fast can you get to me in an emergency?
Our shop is on Rodney Parham in West Little Rock, so most of the city is a short drive. Call (501) 710-3838 any time (nights, weekends, holidays) and we dispatch from whoever's on call.
My Heights home has galvanized pipes and low pressure. Repipe or patch?
If it's galvanized, patching buys months, not years. The corrosion is inside every run of pipe, so pressure drops everywhere eventually. A full repipe to PEX or copper resets the clock for decades, and we can usually do it with minimal drywall cuts.
Do you handle old cast iron sewer lines in Quapaw Quarter?
Regularly. We camera the line first so you see exactly what's failing (roots at the joints, belly sections, cracks) then quote trenchless or targeted repair. No digging up your yard on a guess.
How do you find a slab leak without tearing up the floor?
Acoustic listening equipment and thermal imaging pinpoint the leak to within inches. Most repairs go through a single cut in the slab, or we reroute that line through the attic and abandon the buried section entirely.
Is Little Rock's water hard enough to need a softener?
Moderately hard, yes: enough that scale shortens water heater life and spots up fixtures. If you're replacing elements or showerheads every couple of years, a whole-house softener pays for itself in what it stops destroying.
Do I need a permit for a water heater replacement in Little Rock?
Water heater swaps and repipes typically need a city permit, and we pull it as part of the job. Our license and insurance are current with the state, so inspections pass without drama.
